Promenade

beautiful walking paths

A few minute after and as you are leaving from the Catholic monastery, you head on to the village of Imerovigli. A little aside from the route is Skaros rock, which you can climb up and visit the church of Theoskepasti, offering a breath-taking view to the caldera. Going back to Imerovigli, take the northern path, leading to a dirt road, which you have to follow for about 900m. A little before reaching Prophet Elias, take the left turn to visit the chapel of Saint Antony. From there you go to the chapel of Prophet Elias, following the cobblestone path, which will lead you to an asphalt road. Take the road for about 300 m and then follow the path again, starting to the right of a small cafeteria. There you can enjoy a magnificent view to the island of Thirassia (one of the four Santorinian complex islands).

The last part of the path winds through dry stone walls towards the chapel of the Cross and ends up in the village of Oia (Ia). There, be sure to visit the picturesque harbor of Armeni and Ammoudi Bay. The second route starts from the square of Pyrgos, from where you have to take the old step path. Along the 4.2km long route you can enjoy the changing landscape and the splendid views of the caldera. This path takes you to the monastery of Prophet Elias, built in the 18th century. Worth visiting is the church of the monastery, as well as its and folklore museums, and its library housing 1.200 books. There is a path starting from the monastery of Prophet Elias leading eastwards to Mesa Vouno. At this point the path splits at three. Two of the paths lead to Perissa village, at about 1 hour walking distance the first and to Kamari village, at about 1 hour walking distance, the second. The third and east one goes to the very interesting archeological site of Ancient Thera, at about 1.5 hour walking distance.
